     Many people join gyms, but not all stick around for more than a couple of months. January is the most popular time of the year that people join gyms and make their New Year’s resolution to lose weight, get healthy and develop a weekly workout routine. According to the International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association, annual gym drop-out rates range from 20% and 25% each year.So now, the million dollar question is, “How do I chose the right gym for me that also offers fitness classes to make sure that I am still showing up come summertime?”


     In a nutshell, the type of experience one has in a gym is ultimately what is going to keep them coming back. Jarrod Saracco, a fitness industry consultant states, “From the moment you walk in, it should be about the energy and the experience…” Choosing the right gym can be daunting and difficult due to the fact that there are over 30,000 health clubs in the United States. With that being said, here are some ways to help facilitate the process of finding the right gym for you that offers fitness classes to help you have a good experience and develop the perfect workout schedule.


     First, you want to find a gym that is local to you. Many people are not willing to drive very far to go to the gym. Use Google Maps or another online outlet to find fitness centers close to your specific location. This will make it easier to go on a daily basis.


     Second, and most importantly, you want to be sure that you will actually invest in your membership. Not just money wise, but time and energy as well. Most individuals do not have the luxury of hiring a personal trainer to help them with their fitness goals. However, many gyms offer fitness classes included with your membership. 24 Hour Fitness does offer a wide variety of classes including BodyPump, BodyCombat, HIIT Pilates, Zumba and Yoga. These classes are offered most days and times throughout the week. Some classes are even offered both morning and night. Therefore, even if you have to battle a busy schedule to get to the gym, the various options of classes and class times makes it easier to attend. Some clubs, including 24 Hour Fitness and Fitness 19 also offer free trials for personal training. In addition, Gold’s Gym offers free VIP passes and Free Class Passes to individuals looking to join. Fitness clubs vary from state to state so it is beneficial to research local gyms in your area to see what kinds of special deals and offers they have.
